Becoming a mom is the craziest experience! So much of your life literally changes in an instant. It’s exciting, emotional, scary, and so much more. No matter how much you wanted this, it can still be an overwhelming experience. Everyday you learn something new…both about the baby, and about yourself too! Here are my top pieces of advice for any new mom out there!
1. Get Dressed!
It doesn’t have to be a fancy outfit, it can literally be a clean pair of pajamas, sweats, leggings, or whatever! It really helps give you a little reset to start the new day.
2. Don’t worry about aesthetics
That influencer you follow who has a $300 high chair and pottery barn glider…her baby isn’t any better off than yours. Your focus doesn’t need to be on whether or not you have the trendiest, most expensive baby products, you just have to love your baby.
3. Your baby will cry in public and that’s allowed
You and your baby are vital members of society and you are allowed to take up space! I will shout this from the rooftops until every mom hears it. If Karen is allowed to yell at the customer service lady in Target, then your baby is allowed to cry in the checkout line.
4. Be late…
Getting out of the house with a baby or a toddler is a big deal! I’m proud of you for even getting out of the house. Don’t beat yourself up if you’re running a little behind schedule. The best thing you can do for you and your baby is to slow things down.
5. Be easy on yourself
Postpartum is hard. Being a mom is hard. Babies are hard. Your mind, body, and soul are healing and learning new things. You’re taking care of a new baby AND you’re taking care of yourself. You are going to make mistakes. You’re going to lose your temper or lose control of your emotions. You’re going to feel different than you ever did before. It’s okay. Each phase will pass and everything is temporary. You can do this.
As always, my intention of writing these blogs is to help one person feel less alone! These are just a few things I learned in my time early postpartum. I continue to learn new things everyday and you will too!
